The Second Edition of Controlling Crime provides an important evaluation of criminal justice in the United Kingdom during a period of rapid social change. Each chapter encourages historical, comparative and critical reflection on the organizational logics, powers, procedures and practices of the criminal justice system.

Intended as essential reading for students of criminology, criminal justice, community safety, socio-legal studies, sociology of crime and deviance and social policy, Controlling Crime will also be of interest to anyone wishing to gain an understanding of the operation of contemporary criminal justice systems.

A well written assessment of the United Kingdom Criminal Justice System. An ideal read for Criminology - Sociology students. -- Miss Frances Jackson * drupal *
Another essential read which provides a great insight into issues surrounding the countrol of crime in a historical and comparative manner. Some excellent chapters from Clive Emsley and Sandra Walklate which further strengthen the appeal of this text and make it value for money. The development of the prison, the police, penal policy and the CJS make this a flexible text which can be applied to many modules across different levels of study within criminology. -- Miss Laura Firth * drupal *
An interesting book which I will be recommending as a supplementary text. -- Professor Daniel Briggs * drupal *
