This is an easy to read text with clear information on the various forms of assessment on nursing courses. The information and advice given is clear, while the text also encourages student activity. There are a number of themes running through the text. That of professional practice is clear from the outset, making this a useful text for students who have not yet commenced their programme, but are looking for information on what a nursing programme is about. For this reason I would recommend it to students with a place on the programme, but with time to prepare before the start date.
The focus on course documentation is also useful, encouraging students to look more closely at module/unit materials, outcomes and resources than they might normally do.
Examples of failing students in relation to essay writing and clinical assessment are clear, and likely to be presenting issues that students could identify with. The focus of avoiding failure, as opposed to achieving highly, leads me to feel that this is a text I might recommend to students needing to address a number of assignments, and required to take time out of the course to do so. This text could be a good starting point, particularly as it encourages reflection on past experience and attention to feedback.
