This book contains over 1500 research and statistical terms, written in jargon-free, easy-to-understand terminology to help students understand difficult concepts in their research courses. This pocket guide is in an ideal supplement to the many discipline-specific texts on research methods and statistics.
"The text is quite comprehensive and I am happy to see that both quantitative and qualitative terms are included. The definitions are generally easy to understand and clear." -- Heather Kuhaneck
"It is a clear and easy to read description of terms and concepts with an alphabetic order so it’s easy to find what one is looking for. It is general so it applied to many disciplines." -- Karen L. Webber
"Comprehensive, organized and well-written." -- Hsin-I (Steve) Liu
"It brings key terminology together all in one place. It’s simple to read, not too long, and easy to grasp." -- David F. Rico
"It is simple and clear, covers a large variety of research methodology terms and the internet addresses are terrific." -- Lynn Comeford
"Extensive, easy to understand, easy to use…" -- Kathleen Duncan
My students NEED this book! -- Mary Lynn * Adoption Card *
I like the pockert-sized book, so it is easy to carry. While its focus is on social science research, there′s enough educational terminology for it to be useful. -- Dr Byung-In Seo * drupal *
cost to students for another book -- Dr Jeanne Thomas * drupal *
A gem - fantastic resource for students and early career academics -- Dr Pete Allison * drupal *
Appropriate for introduction to research -- Dr Ronald Knorr * drupal *
The terminology, while quite complete, was more than the students in my masters level action research course required. I would consider this text again if I were teaching an introductory course for doctoral students. -- Dr Sarah Kasten * drupal *
But may use as an adjunct in the research methods course. Concise and accessible but a little too brief to use as a main text -- Dr Stephen Thompson * drupal *
Not as thorough as could be. Many terms excluded. -- Dr Susan Barclay * drupal *
An excellent glossary, very helpful for teaching an introduction to research methods to under-graduate social work students. Comprehensive, up to date and accessible. -- Mrs Aisling Monds-Watson * drupal *
A really useful source of reference for students new to research. -- Mrs Carol Ellis * drupal *
An exellent reference book for anyone undertaking research. All key terminology is right there in one handy little book. I would highly recommend it -- Mrs Suzanne Sinclair * drupal *
So easy for students to follow! -- Professor Carrie Perry * drupal *
Faculty felt the book was not going to help the studetns enough -- Professor David Bambridge * drupal *
Teaching Inquiry, Evidence and Inference (as introduction to scientific reasoning) in a New York State medium-security prison, through the extraordinary Bard Prison Initiative. As you might expect, internet access is severely limited. So the college ordered three or four copies of the Pocket Glossary for the prison Library, as a remarkably comprehensive mini-compendium of necessary terms and their meaning/use. Would have ask for sufficient number for all students, but too pricey. -- Professor Kim Hopper * drupal *
This small book is a quite excellent source of key facts for both my grad and undergrad research methods classes. The book supplements course text books and provides students (and faculty) with an easily accessible glossary of research terms that is neither too dense in its description, or too light weight. -- Professor Paul Hackett * drupal *
