Your Foundation in Health & Social Care cover

Your Foundation in Health & Social Care provides readers with all the knowledge and skills necessary for effective learning at Foundation level, both in study and the workplace.

It explores all the key areas of the Foundation Degree, including:

- critical analysis and practice

- communication

- work placement skills

- psychology

Each chapter features case studies to translate theory into real-life practice, activities to challenge readers, and further reading so that students can develop their understanding.

This is an essential companion for those studying foundation degrees across health and social care, and also valuable reading for students at higher education level.

′This is probably the first textbook which I have recommended to all students to buy. It is a comprehensive and accessible introduction for those wishing to study at foundation degree level′
- Joanne Smith,
Tutor, Foundation degree in Health and Social Care, University of Bolton

′I am recomending this book for any student who has a fear of academic writing. The chapters are reader-friendly and promote reflection through activities and pertinent case study material′
- Julie Brennan,
Health and Social Care Lecturer, Liverpool Community College

This is geared towards a foundation course that is rather specific and not suitable in coverage for an undergraduate module in Health and Social Care. -- Dr Johanne Trew * drupal *
In the introduction to this book the authors state that this is a text for students taking a foundation degree in Health and Social Care. I teach modules on a higher education degree programme in Health and Social Care, and while this book is very well written, it does not contain the type of material that I need for my modules. -- Dr Julianne Law * drupal *

This is an excellent textbook for the Foundation degree in Health and Social Care. It presents the greatest breadth of information in a highly accessible format that allows the student to find the salient facts quickly and easily. This has the benefit of steering them gently toward greater depth in other texts that allow painless enhancement of study skills. This is particularly important where many of the students are drawn from a pool of people who have often been out of study for some considerable time - as with the course I run in the HE department of a large College. -- Mr Andrew Thorne * drupal *
A good introductory text - for Foundation Degree Health - Year 1 - Psycho-social Studies.

Good foundation text for students entering into academia who have not got the grounding required for traditional entry to degree programmes in healthcare. The text enables and supports development of learning skills throughout the programme of study. Students find this accessible, citing as a reference source within written work. -- Mrs Karen Alred * drupal *
This is an excellent book that covers many essential areas of the Foundation course. Many modules will benefit from this book -- Mrs Karen Burton * drupal *

This book provides a basic information into key issues in health and social care. Some of my students have found it invaluable others have preferred a different text. -- Ms Sarah Rutherford * drupal *
This is a sound introductory textbook and can be used by nursing students although it would have to be supplemented by other texts. I wonder why there was no sociology chapter? Chpt 1 was useful, containing lots of easy tips for the learner - would like to have seen more on essay writing. Chpt 2 useful but need more signposting for nurses. Chpt 3 clear introduction to research I would add Alan Brymans research text to the reading list - an easy read. Chpt 4 introduced relevant topics and I liked the section on health inequalities, could the stigma section be developed? Chpt 7 very engaging and clear and it did cover a range of relevant health and social care topics. Chpt 8 useful introduction to psychology and it attempts to link some concepts to practice. (Walker et al, 2004 in reading list has been updated). -- Ms Siobhan McCullough * drupal *
