Los capítulos que integran este libro acometen una lectura de la obra de Ortega en clave actual: lo perene de su enjundia y su directa aplicación al momento presente. José Lasaga Medina trata en su capítulo, de título “Filosofía y vocación”, el modo en que la filosofía orteguiana parte de la premisa de que la realidad ha de entenderse en función de las experiencias vitales de cada cual. Lasaga Medina analiza el subjetivismo del individuo en la comprensión de las realidades y su prevalencia en la experiencia de vivir. En el capítulo “Modernidad y virtud en el joven Ortega”, Alejandro De Haro Honrubia pondera las primeras tesis de nuestro filósofo sobre la virtud. En el tiempo del cientificismo, Ortega observó semejanzas entre las matemáticas y la filosofía para conceder a este último rango de ciencia positiva. Explica De Haro cómo Ortega concluirá que, si la filosofía es una ciencia, entonces la virtud en cuanto objeto de estudio de la filosofía habrá de tenerse por parte de la ciencia.
