Learning to Teach Primary PE cover

This book encourages effective teaching and learning in primary physical education, supporting the reader in meeting the QTS Standards and beyond. It explores the importance of PE for children′s learning and advocates a developmental approach to teaching; it also examines a model of professional practice based on personal reflection and self-appraisal, and emphasises the importance of continuing professional development. A rich selection of practical activities is provided, which cater for children′s learning needs across the primary years. Content is related to current agendas and issues, including the Primary National Strategy, Excellence and Enjoyment, Every Child Matters and the forthcoming Olympics.

The comprehensive but easy to read nature of the book should help coaching students. -- Dr Daniel LOW * drupal *
I used this text in a first year Curriculum Design module whereby we look at different issues in designing a curriculum through the lense of a selection of curriculum subject areas. We used PE as one curriculum subject area in this module this year and hence this text provided students with key topics to consider (e.g. health and safety, and contemporary issues). This was particularly useful for this group of students as they are on an Education degree programme rather than a specialist PE programme and hence most did not come with any particular specialist previous knowledge or interest in PE per sé. Hence the topic areas covered and the very student friendly way this text is written was very helpful. -- Dr Julie Price * drupal *
The practical activities are useful comparisons for training scenarios. Much of the content is especially useful for non-specialists. -- Dr Penny Lamb * drupal *
This book is an essential text for trainee teachers in the Primary School setting. It covers several important areas that will enhance teaching delivery and knowledge. -- Emerick Kaitell * drupal *
Practical ideas; ideas for recording and assessment etc; any help is useful for marginalised subjects. -- Mandy Phillips * drupal *
Highly recommended for non -specialist Physical Education trainees and specialist trainees. -- Mike Goulding * drupal *
This is a great help to students studying to be primary teachers -- Mike Goulding * drupal *
Good Book very useful -- Mr Michael Hobson * drupal *
Useful support for students who lack confidence with this subject area. -- Mr Neil Rutledge * drupal *
Easy to access and understand with a range of issues raised. The Reflective and Practical Tasks are effective in extending students learning. -- Mrs Alison Carney * drupal *
Superb guide to all Primary QTS students/ trainees. -- Mrs Hazel Niemczyk * drupal *
