This book answers these questions and is designed to offer nursing and healthcare students a foundation in effective mentoring. Chapters examine the roles and responsibilities of the mentor, and how they enhance the process of mentorship. By examining the relevant competencies and knowledge base, the book provides an essential framework for developing the practice skills needed for successful mentoring.

Key features include:

- Embedded in real-life practice and case study examples

- Offers tips for successful mentoring and reflects upon likely challenges

- Features a range of interactive study activities linked to the student and mentor′s experiences

- Presents the most up-to-date professional guidance

- Includes running themes of reflective practice; evidence-based practice and multi-professional working.

Mentoring Nursing & Healthcare Students will help both the mentor and the student to develop the skills needed for effective collaboration. It is the core text for mentor preparation and mentor update courses in nursing, midwifery and allied health.

I like the format of this book and it very well related to the standard for mentoring (NMC 2008) which gives it currency. The case studies are particuarly helpful. -- Debbie Casey * drupal *
Recommended as core reading for all students undertaking the mentoring course -- Dr Harryman KOOLMON * drupal *
A comprehensive guide that will supplement the existing reading list on mentoring student midwives. Whilst the status of all midwife mentors (sign-off) is different to that of nurse mentors, the principles of guiding good mentorship practice underpins BOTH professional groups. -- Dr Jayne Marshall * drupal *
A valuable resource for mentors incorporating policies and research in the field of mentorship studies. The authors provide a practical guide for applying theory in clinical settings utilising real life examples.

Easy to read, good as a quick fix book -- Heulwen Morgan-Samuel * drupal *

An excellent book, a ′must′ for all intersted in mentorship. -- Mr Chris Wheable * drupal *
although the authors acknowledge the wider healthcare world the focus of this book is very much on the NMC standards. However, that does not really detract from the good advice and guidance contained within for any health profession mentor. -- Mr Dave Kerr * drupal *
A well written book that encompasses all the key issues and concerns for mentors. However a chapter on ′students experiences of mentorship′ may have enhanced this book still further, particularly as the back cover states "it will help both the mentor and student to develop the skills for effective collaboration". Student′s experiences are interwoven in the chapters but more specific discourse would be better" -- Mr David Atkinson * drupal *
This is a useful resource for tutors and mentors supporting learners within proffestional placement units and within the feild. -- Mr David Corry-Bass * drupal *
This is an excellent practical manual, with good theoretical content too, at the right level for our students. For a ten-week part-time programme it would not be appropriate to require purchase. However it will be highly recommended and elements of it could become required readings if an electronic version were available to us. -- Mr Gordon McArthur * drupal *
In relation to the Mentoring course I have recently completed, I did not refer to this book as frequently as I thought I would. When I did read it I found it lacked a flow. Obviously well written, I found it a little heavy going. This was I feel in part down to my learning style and in part down to the nursing stance from which the book was coming. -- Mr Mark Goodrich * drupal *
Provides some good supporting information for trainee Mentors of Health care students. Worth having to add new perspectives not covered by other texts on the topic -- Mr Nigel Howorth * drupal *
A well written text for the student who will become a mentor when in clinical service. This also provides a useful resource for mentors already in clinical service and for University based tutors when dealing with novel experiences with students in practice placements. -- Mr Paul White * drupal *

Works well alongside Neil Gopees book. A very effective tool for lecturers to work with. -- Ms Helen Bottom * drupal *
A useful book for registrants and mentors written around the 8 NMC domains for Supporting Learning. Less useful for Practice Teachers and AHP Clinical Educators due to the dominance of the NMC Framework and links throughout to pre registration nursing programmes. -- Ms Jan Royal * drupal *
