This engaging book will prove an indispensible resource for CBT trainees and practitioners.

′This is an essential resource both for students of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and qualified cognitive behavioural therapists.

The book is organised in five parts that (logically) cover theory, practice. common challenges, specific populations, settings and core professional issues. Student CBT practitioners will find the first three sections invaluable. More seasoned practitioners might dip into parts four and five to explore the use of CBT in different settings and with different client groups, from children to private practice to self-care and reflective practice. For practitioners working in other modalities, the book is a well-referenced and substantial introduction.

The handbook is better than similar publications that attempt to provide this comprehensive resource. It is clearly written and jargon-free; the contributors demonstrate considerable knowledge and experience in their respective specialist fields. It was also very refreshing to find chapters on ethics and supervision, which are often left out of books of this kind.

I really enjoyed the book, gained new knowledge of benefit to my own practice, and would recommend it as a first point of reference for practitioners on CBT theory and its many applications′ - Therapy Today

This book is extremely useful across a number of modules in which I teach CBT elements and cross modality approaches which draw from cognitive and behavioural theories.
It is an easy to read book and the chapters enabled students to grasp theoretical concepts and link them with practice. Chapter 9 for example was very well received by learners in different modules. For example students on a module on Transcultural Counselling and psychotherapy highlighted their value of the book when we focused on the applicability of CBT when working with cultural difference. Furthermore the chapter on Multidisciplinary Working enabled me to use the book and recommend it to Nurses, Health promotion professionals and psychologists who attended for different modules and sessions. The case studies and examples through ought the book, enabled students to reflect on the practice and ethical principles of CBT. I recommended this book as an essential read..
-- Mr DIVINE CHARURA * drupal *
Undoubtedly a comprehensive guide to CBT. However, it is a little too detailed for the needs of our course. The Specific Populations and Settings Chapter is perhaps the most useful/relevant. I would definitely recommend the book to students exploring Outdoor Therapy. -- Mr Graham Harvey * drupal *
This is a very useful all-rounder for students even new to CBT or with some experience. An excellent addition to anyone′s reading list, because it is both comprehensive and clear. -- Mr Hu Clarke * drupal *
This is a fairly impressive text. I enjoyed the way that chapters were grouped into parts and appreciated some underpinning theory about CBT rather than simple leaping into practice ideas.

My only criticism woul be that I would have liked a specific chapter on when CBT is contra-indicated. CBT has become so fashionable that many in practice see it is an the answer to so many problems and do not stop to think when this approach would be inappropriate. This is something that seems to be missing in the national curriculum that was published as part of the IAPT programme. This oversight needs addressing in University curriculum and core texts such as this.

However, the content itself is informative and helpful. -- Mr Justin Dunne * drupal *
This books offers an informative overview of CBT and the application of theory to practice. -- Mr Kevin Hogan * drupal *

A comprehensive and informed text that provides insights into the theory of CBT, aspects of CBT practice, and specific professional issues and dilemmas facing the practitioner. A well written and accessible volume that is certainly of value to both students and qualified therapists. -- Mr Mark James * drupal *
Excellent book well structured with good figures and case studies to help students to grasp the concepts of CBT brilliant book for CBT I would definitely recommend this for someone studying CBT. -- Mr Matthew Hope * drupal *
Excellent textbook - user friendly, easy to navigate -- Mr Michael Parker * drupal *
Love it or hate it, CBT is with us and the authors show that only the most fundamentalist of practitioners will believe that they have nothing to gain from bringing a little CBT knowledge and skill into their range of relating activities and interventions. -- Mr Pamela Gawler-Wright * drupal *
This book covers various topics not typically found in other introductory texts on CBT. Chapters on topic areas such as values and ethics in CBT, supervision, multidisciplinary working and CBT help readers to go beyond basic introductory knowledge of CBT. -- Mr Pieter Du Toit * drupal *
This is a comprehensive handbook useful for those who are starting to learn about CBT and an equally useful resource for those who have been ′doing it′ for a while. Clearly written case studies provide context. -- Mr Scott Macpherson * drupal *
