Richard Lathe graduated in Molecular Biology from the University of Edinburgh, UK. His doctorate from the University of Brussels, Belgium, was followed by postdoctoral work in Heidelberg, Germany, and Cambridge, UK. He was then assistant director of the biotechnology company Transgène in Strasbourg, France, Codirector of the Biotechnology School in Strasbourg, and Chairman of the Centre for Genome Research at the University of Edinburgh. He has held professorial appointments in Edinburgh, Strasbourg, and Moscow, and is currently Honorary Fellow and Professor at the University of Edinburgh. David St Clair graduated in Medicine from the University of Oxford. His academic career began as clinical lecturer in psychiatry, University of Edinburgh, followed by a Wellcome Trust senior research fellowship at MRC Human Genetics Unit, Edinburgh. From 1995 until becoming emeritus, apart from periods as visiting professor at Columbia University, USA, and visiting scientist at the National Institutes of Health, USA, St Clair has held clinical academic posts in psychiatry at the University of Aberdeen. He has published multiple highly cited seminal papers, especially in psychiatric genetics and epidemiology. He has over 300 publications with more than 40,000 citations.
