This second edition looks in detail at the role of the social worker who engages with older people. It enables the reader to develop the key skills required to understand the mental and physical needs of older people in society while encouraging plenty of discussion and critical, independent thought. Furthermore, this book is a source of contemporary research and offers the reader insights into government legislation and policy. It is an essential read for any student who wants to develop a distinctive focus on social work with older people.
I have added this to the recommended reading list for an optional level 3 module which specifically focuses on the needs of older people. This module has an expected uptake of between 30-35 students each year. -- Miss Esmé Jones * drupal *
I am recommending this to my first year MA Social Work students doing an ′Introduction to Social Work′ module as an accessible introduction to working with older people. Most useful chapters ( in relation to the module ) are those on values and ethics and partnership and participation. -- Mr Guy Kirk * drupal *
The book covers areas relevant to the issues of ageing and is also inclusive in terms of specialist issues E.g. mental health and learning disability. The issue of personalisation however could be integrated more throughout the book in terms of models of personilsed thinking which is from person to person. -- Mrs Patricia Woolley * drupal *
