Cognitive Behavioural Interventions for Mental Health Practitioners cover

In line with current government policy and related recommendations, and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, mental health students will be increasingly required to either engage in, or be appropriately familiar with, the principles of cognitive behavioural interventions.

This book guides the reader through the fundamental principles of the approach in its various mental health application contexts, enabling them to gain the confidence to engage in the supervised, safe and evidence-based application of these principles. It will be a useful guide for mental health students who are experiencing their ′novice′ exposure to practice situations during their diploma or degree course.

Usefull with some helpful examples. Some of the diagrams were too small font e.g. fig 4.2. -- Jackie Heslin * drupal *
great tool for planning new module in mental health -- Miss Fay Armstrong * drupal *
I have put ticked the ′no′ option above because you don′t have a ′not yet′ option!
Excellent book that I intend to start informally reccomending to students immediately
Liked the introduction to CBT as well as discussion about uptake of evidence based approaches by MH nurses - some v good points there & agree that a lot of current practice does not have a great evidence base.
However, on the subject of evidence bases I could not find any reference to criticisms of CBT itself?
I was less sure about the need for the history of the old ENB course & respectfully suggest that this might usefully be replaced by some discussion of CBT critique?
Apart from that however, this really is an excellent resource & I will be encouraging students to read this. -- Mr Andrew Walsh * drupal *
Concise, factual and well illustrated. -- Mr Mark Gibson * drupal *
This was very well structured with clear summaries, tables and guidelines. A good range of references to help the reader focus. -- Mr Mark Vincent * drupal *
A good approach to applying CBT principles in a mental health setting. Good chapter summaries, reflection points and activities throughout. -- Mrs Jade Mullen * drupal *
An easy read book which covers the basic elements of CBT. Case studies, examples of completed formulations/five areas and examples of interventions are helpful for the reader. -- Mrs Tracey Rogers * drupal *
I really like the user-friendly layout of this book, and have already recommended it to an MSc student on placement.
I will be using it with a group of BScs on their Preparing for Social Work module where we are doing a session on CBT approaches in social work. -- Ms Emma Inch * drupal *
Great overview and very practical. Like the interactive style- makes the reader engage with the text and think the issues through. -- Ms Gloria Kirwan * drupal *
Very helpful for new practitioners and people new to the field. It makes the link between theory and practice in a way that is easy to understand. -- Ms Jackie Daniel * drupal *
Included in reading list for therapeutic skills modules with pre registration students and the key approach used in the local Trust. Book provides a clear and basic text about CBT, covering most of the important areas at a basic and understandable leve. -- Ms Jennifer Rooks * drupal *
A very readable, accessible text for the non-CBT trained MH practitioners from a variety of professioanl backgrounds. Helpful reflection/activity points providing the opportunity for the practitioner to consider CBT type approaches in their work settings.
Not much to dislike - as a non CBT trained practitioner I shall be able to put this learning to good use in my own practice and will recommend it to AMHP trainees. -- Ms Judith Matthews * drupal *
Very straightforward and easy to follow. I like that it′s encouraging all of us in MH to use CBT- this is not just for psychologists. Makes it easy to implement into practice. Good for students to understand. -- Ms Sandra Jamieson * drupal *
